WORKOUT REPORT

Lavrow Xenia x Official MC WAKA-chanInternational Friendship Ambassadress Lavrow Xenia x Official MC WAKA-chan

International Friendship Ambassadress Ms.Lavrow Xenia participated in WAKA-chan’s workout* held by Tango ultra’s official MC Junko Wakabayashi(WAKA-chan) on 31th July.
The report from WAKA-chan has just arrived!

  • * What is WAKA-chan’s workout?
  • ・speed training every week
  • ・pace training every month
  • The workout menu were
  • *1,500m x 3times
  • *1,000m
  • *mile relay

Xenia enjoyed her training with her new friends even though she said ‘I just want to enjoy running , I don’t like the hard trainig’ before the training. She looked so excited!

WAKA: What’s your feedback?
XENIA: It was fun! I didn’t think I could run this much! It’s good to practice hard!!

Her face was pleased.

There are a lot of members who will be participating in Tango Ultramarathon, and they talked up a storm about it like ‘So nice of you to run 100km!’, ‘Let us see again on the course of Tango!’, ‘Please cheer me up if I was in difficult!’

Interview to Xenia!

WAKA: You came to Japan 9 years ago. Why did you come to Japan?

XENIA: I learned Japanese in Dusseldorf, Germany for 3 years when I was in high school, since a lot of Japanese were there. So I had an interest in Japan and wanted to come.

WAKA: How do you like Japan?

XeniaXENIA: I love Japanese! They are so kind! Kyoto is the best place for runners. There are many world heritages and I can go to see those by running. It is good for trail running because we have a mountain area. I like to run by Kamogawa-river, too!

WAKA: When do you train usually?

XENIA: I usually run in the night because I’m studying at school. I like night view at Kamogawa-river.

WAKA: What about in Germany?

XENIA: I was in track and field team and I was a long-distance runner since I was a junior high school student, but I didn’t like running so much. There was something changed my mind when I was 15. I suddenly realized that ‘Running is exciting!’, when I was running along Rine river. Running distance of my training was getting longer and longer day by day.

WAKA: That’s why you joined Ultramarathon?

XENIA:
Yes. My priority is not speed but long distance. I would like to run with seeing nice view of nature, just feeling like driving!

WAKA: What’s the charm of Tango?

XENIA: Tango has a glorious sea views different from Kyoto city. When the view of Japan Sea spread in front of me is my happiest moment. In addition, the local people are very warm. I felt close to tears when they say me ‘Welcome back’.
I’m linked by fate, I was under the midwife training for 4 weeks last November at Yasaka hospital which is one of the Aid station in Tango ultramarathon and I will be there again from 17th to 28th August. Some of the doctors and nurses there are ultra-runners and that is encouraging me.

WAKA: Oh, so they must cheer for you. Then, what’s your target goal of this Tango Ultra?

XENIA: I couldn’t train enough, but I want to enjoy the race and finish with smile with everyone!

WAKA: I will wait for you at the finish line! Have fun!

Interview to WAKA-chan!

The number of participants in Tango ultramarathon is increasing. What’s your impressed episode?

I feel the participants are getting younger. Some of them take part in ultramarathon as their memories of graduation of school, others try to run ultramarathon even though they have no experience of full marathon. I was surprised by their challenging mind.
After the runners in 100km division started, I move 23km; to Kumihama venue (60km start) from Amity 若林順子Tango (100km start) by running so that I can communicate with runners on the course. Almost 3 years ago, 2 boys whose ages are about 18 asked me ‘How fast should we run for 100km?’ Then I asked them how much they had trained, so they told me that they had run only 10km for their training! I was amazed by that… and told them ‘run until where you can run, and walk after that.’ I thought they can’t reach more than 40km, but I heard they were at 51km point. I thought they did their best, nicely.
Another impressed episode was the typhoon 2 years ago. I was calling runner’s name at the finish area with holding the table, while the canvas of the MC booth was flown away! I was moved very much by those who reached the finish line during that heavy rain. Human is awesome! Ultraranners are AWESOME!!
What makes them such strong? That’s eternal question…
I’m going to be there to see them again!

What’s the charm of Tango Ultra?

Scenery, people and course.

What do you want to do from here on?

I want to make my goal announcement for ALL finishers!
Sometimes when the timing is off, I miss the goal announcement for them, but the finish area is runner’s best place and moment after their long long running. I do want to congratulate on those best moment with calling their name one by one. I will do my all the best. See you there!
